on that truck could be in trouble too. david steven -- stevenson joins us now. and steven, you looked at two key pieces of surveillance video involved in that case. >> reporter: we also spoke to the attorney for the motorcyclists who says he's still recovering but lets us know he's still very angry about what happened to him right here. surveillance video shot june 29 shows a san francisco ladder truck striking a motorcyclists. ktvu obtained an update on the motorcyclists. he suffered broken ribs and punctured lungs. >> he's still trying to recover. he's been hospitalized several times and still in not so good shape. >> reporter: the firefighters later resigned he was charged with driving under the influence and faces a police investigation. fraizer is suing quinn and the city alleging negligent conduct and that quinn consumed alcohol a violation of fire department rules. >> i think we all want to see this no tolerance policy enforced to the point where this never happens again. >> tending the patient, making sure patient care which is always paramount in our business was done.

did, as you can obviously imagine. we've got the rescue team joining us, john, bobby, dom and craig on long island, new york. how did you make the decision who was going to go close to the water because go of you ended up taking a dip? >> they have a few less pounds than i do. it was a no-brainer when we sent them out on the tree limb there. andou could see the ice wasn't stable and i jumped in to save him and we managed to come out and save the dog. >> so sweet. >> do you guys feel like heros? >> you know what, i felt good. after the dog was out, i felt great. if i didn't look down there, that dog i don't think would have been here today. >> so tell us what amanda said to you when you called her. >> i think she said she was at home with her child and she was going to seasoned her brother down. they said they were going to have the fire department come down, when the brother showed up, turned out he was a volunteer fireman. >> i want to know what that frigid, frosty water was like when you fell in. >> you don't even think about it. you just think about getting out and saving the dog

not that bad. you can see the high cloud deck filtering across. it will be with us probably most of the day. look for filtered sunshine here. a nice sunrise. that's for sure. but a partly cloudy/mostly cloudy day. temperatures, though, really kind of warming up a little bit, especially toward the santa clara valley. we'll end up with 60s to near 70 on some of the highs, especially santa cruz and also girl bil roy. a lot of these higher clouds mean a very fair, hazy day. this will gave to partly cloudy skies tomorrow. 60s on the temperatures to a few upper 60s. here's sal. >>> good morning. right now we're looking at a commute that is doing pretty well especially for this time of the morning. i have to a dealing -- i have a feeling it has to do with this bebeing -- with this being thicke weekend. bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for 10, 15 minutes before you make it past the metering lights and get on the bridge. we're looking at the commute in hayward. the traffic here looks pretty good. southbound a little bit slow from a street to tennyson and then it gets better with slow spots

told us told us two construction worker were working on the shoulder they were hit by a silver knee son. what they were doing is moving one of those road work ahead signs. the gentleman that passed away he was pinned against his own work truck. he is also a contacted worker. the driver of that silver nissan is at the hospital. he is suffering from life threatening injuries. again lots of emergency vehicles here. we are told the two workers were out here to work on emergency repair. there was a dip in the roadway they were working on. i want to go to officer ryan with the chp. how is this effecting traffic? >> we have two of the three lanes closed right now. we are trying to keep the traffic flowing but we do need to preserve our scene. >> how long will it stay like this? >> my estimations are probably an hour and a half. >> reporter: have you talked to some of the other construction workers for that contractor? i believe they started arriving on scene. how are they doing? >> they are pretty shook up. there is a lot of risk involved with working road construction. so its a risk that they

get rid of the long- standing bridge. alex savidge got a closeup look at the work and joins us live. good afternoon, alex. >> reporter: good afternoon. i'm standing on the lower deck of the old eastern span. right now, up above us, there are crews busy at work and they are tearing apart a portion of the upper deck. while there's a lot of heavy machinery busy and working up there on the upper deck, drivers coming across the new bay bridge probably won't even notice what's going on. caltrans led a tour on the old eastern span of the bay bridge, where crews have started dismantling the 14-long foot section of roadway. jack hammers, saws and excavators are removing concrete and rebar. this portion of the upper deck is between the two steel peaks. the work will take six weeks to complete. as they tear this apart, it's possible rebar and concrete could fall. but the contractors have put in place a containment system to catch all of the debris. >> obviously the bottom deck is there to catch anything that falls but also to avoid any of it could fall in the bay. >> reporter: clearing away th

. >> reporter: well, san francisco police told us today that if they hadn 't seen the video they wouldn't have known a crime had been committed here. this video obtained by ktvu shows one man appearing to stomp viciously on the head of a person sleeping on the street. >> right, i learned first of it when i saw the videos. >> reporter: when the police chief saw our report last friday he learned there was no official police report of the incident. officers were seen on camera checking up on the victim who was able to walk away. >> we started again in earnest. our detectives started working it back ward because we don't have a victim or a suspect. watching ktvu's report also prompted the city's district attorney to act. >> this is very disturbing. you see this vicious attack on an individual that was not doing anything wrong. >> reporter: george gascon is calls on witnesses to help police find the suspect in this video. to hold the attacker responsible and to prevent him from hurting anyone else. >> people believe that they can get away with this kind of behavior. clearly this man assaulted

oregon making it into extreme northern california, but not for us. the lows are crazy, nutty. 58 in livermore. concord is 42. there have been a few reports of upper 30s. san francisco sitting at 53. i saw a 54 and 55 in a couple of locations. a high of 66 in the area. warm lows or very cold lows. a northerly breeze -- or an easterly breeze if it is mild -- with calm conditions making it cold for morning lows for others. santa cruz, livermore, santa rosa look like low to mid 70s. vacaville is at 70 degrees today. semi today. mostly sunny. breezy at times. not as bad as yesterday. a slight warm up on the temps. 58 to 60 for starts would not take much to get to the 70s. here is sal. >>> good morning. we have an unusual problem in contra costick county. a thousand hypo determinic needles have been spread along the roadway here. you can see the area right here where this icon is. with used high pressurer dermic needles, no one wants -- hyper dermic needles, no one wants to get in there and clean that up, hence the delays. so far so good in the santa clara valley. back to the desk. >>> al

special story. we've used skype on this show before to connect with people all over the world but these people used skype for certainly incredibly intimate. sarah was born in indiana. when her mom was 20 weeks pregnant, she learned sarah would be born without a mom. she decided to find another mom possibly going through the same experience. she found theresa in new zealand. she was also going to have a daughter, page, who was also born without an arm. so when the little girls were babies, the moms would send each other photos of their daughters as they were growing up and they were able to share with each other their experiences. but somewhere along the process life just happened and they lost touch with each other. after three years of sarah and emma searching for them in new zealand, they finally found each other and they were able to reconnect. >> when i saw page, it was like i saw a mirror image of me. >> when i saw sarah, i thought this is how people see me. >> they became best friends but they never met at this point. skype actually paid for them to be able to do this. this

right. we can seat traffic here behind us. that bright shiny light there, that's the fourth bore. it opened at 4:25. it's a change that definitely will be noticed by drivers, particularly tariffers who -- drivers on the weekend. there will always be four lanes open in both directions going east and west through the tunnel. drivers honked as the ore opened. the new bore means cal trans won't have to reverse the flow twice a day using the middle bore. this extra one bent will shave time off in the drive for people going reverse directions, people headed toward the city in the evening and those driving toward the east bay in the morning. >> going to add a level of predictability to schedule. right now on the weekends it's not predictable as if they will have two tunnels open in their direction. you can't predict what will happen or where. at this point now people are able to know there are two tunnels in each direction. >> reporter: now 160,000 drivers pass through the tunnel every day. back out here live we want to show you what's going on. the third bore is still closed because caltra
